Bead Trends magazine again!

I have had the good fortune to be published this year (2010) in Bead Trends magazine not once but twice!  These earrings were in the October issue.
Blue & Aqua chalcedony briolette silver toned necklace, cascadingAnd this necklace is appearing in the recently published November issue.
Add to that the excitement of knowing that the editors at Bead Trends have also selected a piece for the upcoming April issue... well, my PR cup runneth over!
Woohoo..... super excited on my end of things!

Bead Trends and submitting photos for publication

In April 2009, a friend and fellow jewelry artist walked into my classroom after the dismissal bell had rung for the day.  She had with her a copy of a magazine called Bead Trends.
"I think you should submit photos to this publication."
"Really?"
"they published my things and your wire work is way better than my bead stringing.  Submit something.  See what happens."
She dropped the April issue on my desk, smiled and walked out again.
I flipped throught he magazine and saw all the wonderful things that people had created.  Could my pieces really compete with these seasoned artisans?  By the following morning I had decided to investigate the magazine further.  I went to their website and poked around a bit.  ALL their photographs were submitted by artists, some of whom design and create jewelry for a living and those who likeme are hobby jewelry designers.
I read up on their requirements for submission and decided to try it.  I submitted three photos of pieces I had created and waited to hear back.  It was so simple.  All I had to do was send an email to the address listed with my name, contact info, a description of the piece in question and a photo of the piece.  Simple.
Amazingly, they accepted one of my rings for publication!  I was thrilled!
The editor wrote a letter explaining that I was to send the ring to their company in a secure box, well wrapped and insured to them within a specified period of time.  They would then have their photographers photograph the item and then would send it back when the issue with my piece feautred was released.  They also sent two copies of the magazine as well as a $20 certificate for me to spend at Fire Mountain Gems. I thought this was a great deal!
I have since submitted and had several other jewelry pieces accepted for publication, including a pair of earrings featured in this month's issue.  I highly recommend this publication for great jewelry ideas as well as a means for getting pieces published.  It's great PR and super easy to get pieces accepted.
My next goal is to be the 16 page feature artist in an issue.  Still working on that idea though.

Bead Trends October issue

I once again will have a featured piece in the October issue of Bead Trends magazine! YAY! And I am submitting LOTS of pieces for the November issue as well. I'm just going to keep submitting until maybe they ask me to be the featured designer... or they get sick of me. Whichever happens first I guess.
They are featuring this pair of earrings.

Featured item 4-22-10

Today I would like to feature a newly listed item again. I just listed this lovely pair of copper and quartz crystal point earrings yesterday! I dug these quartz crystals out of the Rocky mountains in Montana myself and have done nothing to them except wrap them in copper wire. A very earthy adornment! $25

Featured Studio piece 4-21-10

I am going to feature a new set that I just listed in the past couple of days. This is a necklace and earring set using gold colored coin beads and deep blue iridescent czech glass beads and gold toned chain. I think it's very gypsy like... and has a sort of Aztec feel as well. Perfect accessory for a gypsy or pirate! $35

New pictures of old pieces....

These are some pieces that have been in my collection for a while but haven't had decent pictures taken of them. So yesterday I took some time and photographed them and am listing the ones that are not already listed. Just a sample.... I'll show you more later.

New pieces!

I have been a very busy bee creating lots of new pieces! Here are some sample pictures or two new pairs of earrings and a large statement pendant based on a "challenge" someone suggested to me in the Artfire forums.

The earrings are simple sterling silver chain and wire with faceted gemstone briolettes. Briolettes are one of my favorite things and I love the cascading effect the chain allows me to create with them.

The pendant is based on an idea given to me by a couple of artists on Artfire in the forums. I was looking for some inspiration and they provided it. With the idea of using briolettes in a new fashion (though on that count I'm not sure I succeeded) and giving it a Brazilian Carnival flair I came up with this wild looking square pendant that reminds me a little of confetti being thrown in the air.

Featured Studio Piece 4-8-10

Today's featured studio piece is a new listing. I made these lovely dangly earrings just this past week and LOVE the sparkle they produce. They are quartz, amethyst and green cubic zirconia faceted briolettes wrapped in silver toned wire. I then suspended them from different lengths of siler toned chain and attached them to ear wires. Lovely shine and color... sure to please any ear! $25

New pieces!

I have completed a few new pieces! I just got them listed in my Artfire studio but thought I would share pictures of them here anyways.
The first one is a LONG silver toned chain that features handmade lampwork beads made by ME! I made these beads a few years ago but hadn't been able to find the rught jewelry project for them. Finally last night, I felt inspired by a trend. This chain is meant to be worn long and doubled up but it could possibly be tripled up. It's that long. I added some faceted czech glass beads in for color and balance.
The second piece I finished is actually a necklace and earring set that has a very vintage feel. I bought these gorgeous vintage rhinestone spacer beads in Santa Fe NM in November and have been just waiting to find the perfect use for them. I paired them with creme colored swarovski crystallized pearls and POOF! The perfect prom or bridal set for that vintage gal!

Featured Studio Piece 3-28-10

I would like to feature a lovely pair of earrings from my studio today. I don't make a lot of earrings for some reason and I am kind of hoping to change that in the near future. These earrings are called "cascade" because they have three lengths of yellow gold toned chain each displaying a copper wrappe briolette. They are in the warm colors of orange, red and pink. Theses colors are proveded by using blood quartz, pink chalcedony, and carnelian faceted briollette beads. They are hung from hand made copper wire earwires. A stunning adronement for any lady! $25
